Terms of use
Took Me Back is a free editorial catalogue of curated memory scenes with soundtracks. By using the site you agree to use it for personal, non-commercial listening and browsing, and not to scrape, invent, or misrepresent playlist or track identifiers.
Playback and outbound listening happen through third-party providers (including YouTube, YouTube Music, and Spotify) under their own terms and privacy policies. We may change, pause, or remove memories when a soundtrack is still being assembled or when rights require it.
Share shortcuts may open WhatsApp, X (Twitter), Facebook, Telegram, or your email app. Those services process whatever you choose to send under their own policies — we do not control them.
Content & rights
We curate pointers to music available on third-party platforms. We do not claim ownership of the underlying recordings, compositions, or official artwork unless explicitly stated.
If you are a rights holder and believe something should be removed or corrected, contact us and we will review promptly.
Privacy
Took Me Back is operated as an editorial web product. For privacy questions, account deletion, or data requests, email team@tookmeback.com.
We aim to collect as little as practical. Preferences such as sound unlocked, dismissed prompts, and similar UI choices may be stored in your browser's local storage. Server logs from hosting may include IP address, user agent, and request metadata for security and reliability.
If you create an account, we store your email, a hashed password, and any memories you keep in your pocket. If you send a memory suggestion, we store the text and any email you provide (or the email on your signed-in account). On-site "here now" presence uses short-lived session signals so counts can update — not a marketing profile. We do not sell personal data.
Who helps run the site
These providers process data on our behalf or when you use embedded / linked features. Each has its own terms and privacy policy:
- Vercel — hosts and serves the site (including request logs and deployment infrastructure).
- Managed PostgreSQL database — stores accounts, pocketed memories, suggestions, and presence data via our configured database provider.
- Google Analytics — optional measurement, loaded only after consent, so we can understand which pages and memories people open.
- Resend — transactional email used to deliver internal digests of memory suggestions (which may include the email address you submitted).
- YouTube / Google — video and audio embeds, thumbnails, and the YouTube IFrame API when you play a soundtrack.
- Spotify — embeds and outbound links when you open a track or playlist there.
We do not use Microsoft Clarity on this site. If we add session analytics or other tools later, we will name them here.
Retention & your choices
Account and pocket data are kept while your account remains active. Memory suggestions are kept so we can review and curate. Presence signals are short-lived. Hosting and analytics logs follow each provider's retention defaults unless we configure shorter windows.
You can ask us to delete your account and associated pocket / suggestion records tied to your email by writing to team@tookmeback.com. You can clear local storage in your browser at any time. Blocking third-party cookies or using an ad blocker may limit analytics and some embeds; that is under your control.
No professional advice
This site is for cultural and entertainment purposes. Descriptions of eras, places, and memories are editorial, not historical or legal authority. This page is a product disclosure, not legal counsel for your situation.
Presence counts
On-site "here now" counts reflect near-realtime presence among open sessions. They are atmospheric — not a marketing census or guarantee of concurrent listeners.
